Welsh Springer Spaniel
Red and white, always, and older than the English springer it is named beside. It works closer to the gun, and it attaches to one family rather than everyone.

Overview
The Welsh Springer is a separate and older breed from the English Springer, always red and white, and it works closer to the gun. It is a distinct Welsh landrace rather than a colour variant.
It is more reserved than the English Springer, less common, and it has avoided the working and show split that divided its English relative.
Temperament
Affectionate, loyal and more reserved than other spaniels. Welsh Springers are devoted to their families and cautious with strangers, which is unusual in the group.
They are sensitive and respond badly to harsh handling. They are also prone to separation anxiety and they do badly left alone. They are less frantic than an English Springer and they still need real exercise.
Care and grooming
A flat silky coat with feathering that needs brushing twice a week, with attention to the ears and legs. Moderate shedding.
The ears need weekly cleaning. Hip dysplasia and glaucoma occur, and the breed is generally healthier than the English Springer with fewer documented conditions. Twelve to fifteen years.
Living and exercise
An hour and a half a day with scent work and retrieving.
They are uncommon and mostly bred by people who work them, which has kept the breed in good shape. They suit an active family that will be around.
