Overview

The Asian Semi-longhair is the longhaired member of the British Asian group, and it is also registered as the Tiffanie, which is the name most people know it by. Two names, one cat, and the duplication is a registry artefact rather than a difference in the animal.

It has the Burmese body and the Burmese temperament under a semi long coat with a plumed tail, and it came out of the same 1981 Burmese to Chinchilla Persian mating that produced the whole group.

Temperament

The most Burmese thing about it is the personality. Outgoing, chatty, affectionate and involved in everything, with a little more of the Persian's calm mixed in than the shorthaired Asian has.

They are people cats and they do not do well ignored. They will follow, they will sit on the paper being read, and they will comment.

Care and grooming

The semi long coat has little undercoat, so a twice weekly comb keeps it right and matting is uncommon.

The same Burmese line conditions apply as for the rest of the Asian group, the WNK4 hypokalaemia variant in particular, and both are testable. Ask a breeder for results rather than assurances.

Living and exercise

An involved household. They are active without being wild, and they use height.

Good with children and other animals, and considerably happier with company than alone. Twelve to sixteen years is normal.
